I'm not sure how many Ace fans are out there. Honestly I don't really care. I'm not even a KISS fan, really. But when I was presented with the opportunity to go see "Space" Ace Frehley this past Friday in Atlanta, well..... I'm always up for a good concert.
And good it was. The guy is going on 57 years old, but rocked the house like someone in their 20s. Talk about impressive! We traveled 5 1/2 hours to see him, drove through lunchtime traffic in Atlanta to get to the Center Stage Theatre, and waited in line for 4 hours just to get next to the stage. Well worth it...
The venue seats 1100 people, and while not completely sold out I figure there were about 1000 folks there. I was against the stage, first row. You could see the sweat gleaming off Ace's scalp (through his thinning hair). The crowd was awesome, alive and full of energy.
Ace begins to play... and play... and play... 18 songs including the encore. The sign at the door said absolutely no photography, but everyone (or so it seems) had their cellphones out taking pictures. I was one of those. Ace seemed to pose for shots, and I got some decent photos for a cellphone camera.
There were a couple minor scuffles in the crowd (nothing funnier than two 50 year old men trying to fight....), but all-in-all, the crowd was cool. There was much alcohol present, though Ace himself was sober. He's been that way for a little bit now....
I'd go again. I'd recommend the show to my friends. And to all of you.....
